Google acquisisce Motorola Mobility! Android è pronto per un nuovo inizio!
Dopo un ritorno importante da parte di Motorola avvenuto con il primo Milestone ormai due anni fa e un rilancio proprio grazie al fenomeno Android, Google annuncia a sorpresa l’acquisizione completa di Motorola Mobility.
L’operazione costerà alla casa di Mountain View 12,5 miliardi di dollari e permetterà così al sistema Android di avere un produttore OEM ufficiale per i propri device Google Experience senza ogni volta appoggiarsi ad un produttore diverso.
Questo comunque non significa che Motorola scomparirà ufficialmente dal mercato ma continuerà ad operare in modo indipendente attraverso il sistema Android e i terminali finora annunciati mantenendo dunque la propria identità e il proprio nome. Motorola continuerà ad esistere cosi come la conosciamo anche se adesso sarà proprietà di Google!
A questo punto sarebbero così smentite tutte le voci e i rumor sul prossimo Nexus 3 che volevano sia LG che Samsung come possibili candidate e appare adesso quasi come una conferma che Motorola sarà il produttore del prossimo Google Experience con a bordo Ice Cream Sandwich (nessuna certezza a riguardo ma le probabilità sono altissime).

Sembra quindi che i produttori abbiano accolto la mossa di Google in modo positivo, anche se ci vorrà ancora un pò di tempo prima che tutto venga completato. Indubbiamente il futuro di Android, dopo questa mossa, potrà solo essere ancora più roseo di quanto si sarebbe potuto immaginare. Google avrà ora un proprio sistema Mobile, un proprio produttore, un proprio motore di ricerca, un proprio navigatore e una serie infinita di servizi online e non che abbracciano un’ecosistema che non si ferma al mobile ma che si espande anche sul desktop con Chrome OS!

Google to Acquire Motorola Mobility
Combination will Supercharge Android, Enhance Competition, and Offer Wonderful User ExperiencesMOUNTAIN VIEW, CA and LIBERTYVILLE, IL – AUGUST 15, 2011 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: MMI) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Google will acquire Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share in cash, or a total of about $12.5 billion, a premium of 63% to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies.
The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals in the US, the European Union and other jurisdictions, and the approval of Motorola Mobility’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2011 or early 2012.
